A Woman’s Pain - Filk of the Week

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

grief.jpgNews for Newbies has been preempted to bring you the SCA song filk chosen by the winner of last week’s medieval riddle contest. Sally from Living Without Meat chose “A Woman’s Pain” for the filk of the week. It’s another song that I wrote back when I was the Bard of Fettburg. Sally has also chosen to have me write a new filk based on… wait for it…. vegetarian medieval food! This should be an awesome topic, and I already have a tune in my head. The new song will be posted on Saturday. So, without further ado, here is “A Woman’s Pain.”

A Woman’s Pain
(tune: We Move On)
by Zeva the Weaver

The first time that I saw him, I knew that I would love him
All I wanted was for me to be his bride
But war soon called him off to distant battles
And I was left alone to weep through the night

When dawn came, I put my fears away
Knowing that I’d seem him on some far off day

It’s always been our lot to wait and pray and cry
To live in constant dread that our men will die
For some do not return and hearts are torn in two
But in my soul I knew that somehow he’d get through

How could I have known that he would not come back
That one dark archer’s bolt would turn my whole world black

I suffer not alone for others share my pain
That though we loved, our prayers were all in vain
But still the sun does rise and our lives go on
And though it’s killing me I know I’ll face the dawn

We move on, we put our pains away
But darling I still miss you each and every day

Win a Filk - We Have a Winner!!!

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

The winner of the Win a Filk of Your Very Own contest is… Sally Andersen!

Sally won for the following reasons:

1) Her answer was hysterical.
2) She also had the correct riddle answer.
3) She made fun of DaveP from Pop Buzz UK, and that’s always good!

So, Sally, pick you answer your choice for today’ post from the following SCA filk songs I wrote. Then, leave a comment and let me know what topic you would like your personal filk to be on. Congratulations.

And everyone be sure to check out Sally’s blog at Living Without Meat. It’s great!
