I’m Sick, Mom’s Well and the Masthead Rocks!!!!

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Hello to All My Devoted Readers!

I’m sorry that today’s post is later than my usual norm. However, perhaps you will forgive me when you learn that I am still running a fever and am on codeine, to which I am mildly allergic. Yes, I know. It’s insane.

Onto the good news. My mother’s surgery went really well. She’s home now, but she pretty tired and still in some pain. She wanted me to let all of you know how much she appreciated your thoughts and prayers on her behalf.

Now for the posty goodness! If you look up, you will see SCA Life’s outstanding new masthead! Woo hoo! The masthead was created by Lessa over at Watching Survivor. Isn’t she awesome… almost as awesome as the masthead, eh?

So lots of love and kudos going out to Lessa!

Tomorrow’s Wednesday Wordplay will find you treated to a filk written by Eideann, the author of “Jumbles of Jargon.” So stay tuned and I’ll see you all tomorrow.

Major Surgery Today…

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

UPDATE: Surgery was cancelled due to a lack of hospital beds in the ICU. The hospital has a bad rep for patient care during the night. So the surgeon refuses to do the surgery unless there’s an available bed in the ICU for my mom. Now we have to go back tomorrow morning and start all over. Thanks for the good wishes, and keep thinking of her.

Dear Reader,

I’ve just realized that I didn’t let you know why the next edition of the Medieval Recipe series was postponed. So here goes.

My mother, who is 67 years old, is having major surgery today. Her entire cartoid artery (hope that is the correct term and spelling) is being cut open, cleaned out and stitched shut again. This is because it is 90% blocked and has already caused her to have several “mini strokes.” Until she has the surgery, there is a 20% chance she could have a severe stroke and die or suffer major brain damage.

So the surgery is a must. She is very nervous, and my dad, my niece and I are all going to the hospital with her today to stay during the surgery, and I will be spending the night there with her afterwards.

Her name is Betty. Keep her in your thoughts, and please be patient if a few things are late over the next few days.

Thanks,
Catslyn

Monday Memories has been preempted to bring you this contest announcement. Whoever convinces the most people to leave comments on the SCAlife.com blog will win an out-of-print issue of Tournaments Illuminated, the Society for Creative Anachronism’s equivalent of Life Magazine.

The Rules:

1) You may leave comments yourself.
2) You may have other people leave comments on your behalf, but they must specifically mention that they are commenting because you referred them.
3) All comments must be of a substantive nature, not just, “I’m commenting! Hee hee!”
4) The contest will run from 11:59 p.m. on Monday, June 18 to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, June 24.
5) SCAlife will be the postage to mail the issue of Tournaments Illuminated.
